FOOD WALK! is an exclusive tour not offered anywhere else, created by The Siem Reap Hostel for our guests to get familiar with local Cambodian flavours.
Departing from Reception every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 1pm you can join our experienced local Khmer guide Sia, who speaks excellent English. He will take you on a walk to the Old Market where you can try local foods, soups, spices, fruits and even deep fried tarantulas if they are in season. Experience tastes you won’t find anywhere else in the world.
Cost: $7 includes guide, lunch and cold beer when you get back to the hostel

You’re either a Sunset or a Sunrise person…..Getting up to leave the hostel at 5am is great for your first time out to the temples. You arrive at the site in complete darkness and the full extent of the huge temple park is revealed by the sun, minute by minute. Then again, there is the romance of taking a picnic and a bottle of wine, pulling up a blanket and watching the sun go down over the serenely beautiful temples, designed to catch the last rays of the sun in their reflection pools.
There are 2 options – Angkor Wat, the most famous and Sras Srang, where there are LOTS of tourists. You need to leave the hostel at 5am, book your Tuk the night prior which will cost you $7. It takes 2 – 3 hours round trip. A temple pass is required $20 for 1 day or $40 for a 3 day pass.
There are 3 options – Angkor Wat, Phnom Bankeng (very busy) or Pre Rup. You need to have a temple pass and the Tuk Tuk is $15 flat fee which takes around 4 – 8 hours leaves at 5.15pm.
The Small Circuit covers the 3 most famous temples with a few extra stop-offs along the way. You will see the infamous Angkor Wat, Bayon (pictured) and Ta Prom made famous by the Tomb Raider film, where the jungle has taken over.

This is perfect for those that only want to spend 1 day at the temples. Trust our Tuk drivers to plan out the perfect day with you, they know this area very well.
The Big Circuit takes in several other temples, each with their own unique design style and building methods. You will see Preah Khan, Ta Som, Neak Pean, East Mebon and Pre Rup.

The Roluos Group of temples are about 30 minutes drive from Siem Reap, East of the town. They are not in the same area as the Angkor Wat Archeological Park. These temples are amongst the oldest in existence and pre-date Angkor Wat.

TIME: Around 3 – 7 hours
Bang Mealea means Lotus Pond and is located approx 40 km from Siem Reap and The Siem Reap Hostel. As you can see from the picture it’s a very overgrown temple where the jungle has taken over. Not many other tourists visit this site, so you can sometimes find yourself completely alone in this jungle ruin. The trip out is a great way to see village life in action.
ENTRY: $5 Temple Pass per person

Banteay Srei and Banteay Semre Temples

Phnom Kulen means Mount Kulen, the most sacred place in Cambodia. It is about one hour’s drive from The Siem Reap Hostel. It is an amazing 8 hour day of sight seeing with lots of variety. Don’t take our word for it, check out the pictureshere.Tour includes:
- Short walk to the summit of the mountain
- Temple on top of the summit with a reclining Buddha
- Jungle and Khmer Rouge sites
- 1000 Lingas carved stones in the river bed
- Kulen waterfall swimming
- Rock quarry where the stones to build the temples came from

You can combine a visit to the Bantey Srei temple with a swim at the Mount Spean waterfalls featuring the carved stones in the river bed known as the ’1000 Lingas’. A great day all round.

TIME: 6 – 8 hours

The traditional Khmer village of Kompong Phlok is at the edge of the great Tonle Sap lake. It is a working, living, breathing village, unlike the tourist traps often recommended in tour guide books. At the very edge of the village where you can watch traditional river life in action is a forest that is submerged by water during the wet season from July – January each year. Take a canoe ride through the tree tops, it is a truly zen experience.

TIP: If you are in Siem Reap August – November, this is a real must do, make time for it!
The Silk Farm is run by the association Artisans D’Angkor and provides jobs to over 100 Cambodian craftsmen and women. As well as preserving ancient techniques, contemporary designs are being produced. You’ll see how a little tiny silk work egg ends up being a beautiful scarf or bag.

Never seen a Cambodian pantomime? Why not see five in one day at the Cambodian Cultural Village. This place is hard to describe. It’s like a large theme park with a wax museum, King Kong and Superman statues, as well as live and stuffed animals. It’s very peculiar, kitsch and well worth a 2 hour wander through the park if you like performances, history and animals.
ENTRY: $11 per person
TRANSPORT: $5 Tuk Tuk Ride or 20 minute bike ride

The Landmine Museum and Butterfly Farm are two great examples of Cambodian run organisations that help their communities as well as being great to visit. The two centers are only 10 minutes apart make it easy to combine both in to one trip.

The ACCB Wildlife Rescue Center is located approximately 49km from Siem Reap town near the Banteay Srei temples. From here you can also visit the waterfalls at Mount Spean
