High season - well that was like trying to straighten out a giant plate of spaghetti that'd been dropped from a helicopter! Well done to our amazing staff for handling around two and a half thousand bookings since the beginning of December - and, I may add, with fantastic feedback on the review sites. Lots of happy punters came and stayed and enjoyed the fun of our beautiful Hostel.
March marks the beginning of warmer weather here in Cambodia - luckily we are the ONLY hostel in town with an undercover pool. Deliciously refreshing after a day exploring the temples, while those with outdoor pools can really only claim to have a large warm bath! Combined with a $1 dollar frozen daiquiri, we can really help you cool down and get in the mood for the evening's fun. Still not cool enough? Our air conditioned Cinema is a great place to chill for the afternoon.
We look forward to seeing you here, at Cambodia's very first (and very finest!) Hostel, soon.
Love from all the team here at the SRH.
You know nothing, John Snow - High Season is coming!
All our dorms have just been spruced up with a lick of paint and all bathrooms given a needed freshen up - the building is looking smashing!
If you're planning on coming to the Hostel over the next few months, book asap - we're currently booking out 1-2 nights ahead and demand is only picking up with bookings now filling rapidly into February. Come and explore the fabulous temples of Angkor from the most comfortable and social base, with the greatest range of in-house facilities in Siem Reap.
See you when you get here!
Congratulations to Bunna who has taken a micro finance loan with the hostel to purchase his new Honda Dream - He will be scooting everyone around town on his new sweet wheels
Rough Guides have had a poll on the friendliest people in the world. Guess where the Khmer people sit on the list? Check it out here: http://www.roughguides.com/gallery/the-friendliest-countries-in-the-world-as-chosen-by-you/#/0
Many of our guests consider volunteering whilst here in Siem Reap. There are some great organisations here doing some really good work. There are others unfortunately, that operate as a profitable business at the expense of the people they claim to be helping. We strongly suggest you do some research on the organisations you plan to get involved with. Here is a short documentary that aired on Al Jazeera recently: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-hf_snNO9X8
Our new cinema is up & running! Our guests are now enjoying nightly movies & local documentaries on the big screen nightly in air conditioned comfort. Make sure you check it out on your next visit. Of course, its free for our guests.
AMAZING WORK!!!! The SIem Reap Hostel just won the best hostel in Cambodia AND even better we came in at number 10 of best large hostels worldwide! The Hoscar awards are given out by Hostelworld. To get this award we have competed with 35,000 properties in 180 countries. Thanks to your great reviews, and of course the awesome staff who made this possible!
New Years Eve. Its always better in a foreign land, right? I’m sure many if not all our guests will agree. We had a great couple of days celebration. $1 dacquiris by the pool were the perfect warm up for what was to be a crazy NYE on Pub Street. Well Done to all our celebrants for banding together, turning individuals into a large pack which dominated large parts of Angkor What? Bar for most of the night. New friends soon became best friends as the buckets flowed & everyone seemed to have someone to kiss come midnight (some kept the kissing going well after the count down too). Special shout outs to a few Aussies: Thomas, for managing to not lose his pants (again) & to Jess & Ainsly for making that 6 o’çlock bus without sleeping.
New Years Day Reggae went down a treat, as did the soothing, ice cold Anchor Draft. Hanging by the pool with bleary eyed new friends, what better way to spend the day!
The first of new dorms are up & running! Our recent renovations are now complete & guests are now staying in our new Basic Dorms with shared bathrooms. We have two spaces on the top floor for the basic dorms where people are sharing with 8 or 10 of their new friends. Both dorm rooms still have the conditioning to keep cool and share two bathrooms and shower rooms keeping the price of the bed down for those on a tight budget. .
Hi all! After a fantastic high season we’re closing the Hostel for 4 weeks to spruce up the place & add a few more facilities for you all to enjoy. We’re currently accepting bookings from the 29th of June 2013. see you all soon!
Wow. Gus & I have been here 3 months. And what a great 3 months it’s been. There was a lot for us to learn initially about how things work here in Cambodia.
We’ve had some great events: regular pool parties, competitions on the pool table & most recently Xmas day lunch (which was an awesome day) & now we realize we need to document some of these. Stand By for many new blog entries with whats been going on around here. Its nearly New Years Eve, I bet there’s a story to tell coming up -Driess
